Whose on top of leading alternative search engines?  It is the user experience and the way information helps bring us alternative resources.  Some of which are better depending on what the purpose.  Charles S. Knight writes an article about alternative search engines.  For the SEO minded folks, there are places for link building, blogging, etc.

We reviewed the article and the list of search engine sites provided at the bottom of the article.  For the purpose of research and locating places for link building, we came across sites we use like Spurl.net, which is an online bookmarking service and search engine.  There are other referenced sites to pick up high quality links such as del.icio.us (searching for the freshest bookmarks) and digg (news, videos, and images).  Here’s a clip of what he had to say:

Ask anyone which search engine they use to find information on the Internet and they will almost certainly reply: “Google.” Look a little further, and market research shows that people actually use four main search engines for 99.99% of their searches: Google, Yahoo!, MSN, and Ask.com (in that order). But in my travels as a Search Engine Optimizer (SEO), I have discovered that in that .01% lies a vast multitude of the most innovative and creative search engines you have never seen. So many, in fact, that I have had to limit my list of the very best ones to a mere 100.

But it’s not just the sheer number of them that makes them worthy of attention; each one of these search engines has that standard “About Us” link at the bottom of the homepage. I call it the “why we’re better than Google” page. And after reading dozens and dozens of these pages, I have come to the conclusion that, taken as a whole, they are right!

  • Search engine optimization (SEO) must be considered a vital aspect of any Internet marketing approach.

  • An interesting article. In the UK Google is even more dominant than it is in the US and Europe, with it accounting for well over 90% of all searches.

The list of alternative search engines was useful to see what might be in the future (especially with Google doing all it can to alienate its users at the moment!), but for the time being its still the Big G that gets my undivided attention.
